Coffee and Contemplation: Ticket Punch Sunday

I feel like the NCAA tournament this year is not getting the same attention that it has in years past. And that made me think about how fragmented we have become in the last two decades with the multitude of options available. Whether it’s streaming, the hundreds of traditional television channels, web-based options, social media, and of course podcasts… there are so many different things for a person to consume that the “mainstream” options are falling off. Look at traditional TV ratings, they are horrible. And I can’t help but wonder this Sunday morning whether or not this is a good thing?

Author’s note: I’m going to pontificate on this for a few paragraphs, if you just want Sunday’s gambling picks scroll down

Everyone is their own person. And with that comes unique interests and viewpoints that make us who we are and slightly different from each other, and that’s unabashedly a great thing. But with this segmenting of society as more and more options are in front of us it is likely that we are missing that shared fabric that can unite us. And yes I appreciate that I may be looking at the clouds here with the foundation of the thought being “No one cares about college basketball like they used to!” But you have to admit that it is entirely possible that the polarization of our society might be at least somewhat related to the stratification and isolation that all these options for content consumption have caused.

I hope we all can be a little more empathetic towards one another and enjoy the gift of being alive in this era of time and what it provides us. Stopping to appreciate the fact that I can watch 3 college basketball games at once while someone else can enjoy someone streaming on Twitch, or being on a video call with people all over the world is truly awesome.

And with that, I want to thank you again for giving me your time and click today and every time you listen to us here at GENY or read an article we do appreciate it. We are doing this out of pure love of the game and are the true independent voice of Philly sports and we’re not going anywhere. It’s been a trying week for us here and we want to let you know that your support is greatly appreciated.

Now, let’s get to why some if not most of you are here, it’s time for some more March Madness!

We finally broke through! 3-0 on Saturday! That puts us at 9-4 through the first three days of action and now we take some of that profit and make a move on a confidence play below. And I would be lying if I didn’t thank Kelvin Sampson for making his guy make both free throws to close out Gonzaga instead of making one to go up 4 and clank the second to make the clock run out faster. That second make was the difference between 3-0 and me pulling my hair out. Anyway, let’s get into Sunday’s slate:

-Sunday 2:40 pm Duke -12.5 (1) vs Baylor (9): It’s a big spread, especially in the second round, I know. Duke is this good. They are the class of the tournament. I am comfortable laying the points here and I fully expect them to cruise. This is a confidence play. 2 units.

-Sunday 6:10 pm Saint Mary’s (7) vs Alabama (2) UNDER 149.5: This is partially a continuation bet on St Mary’s performance in the first round. That defense is impressive. It is also a slight commentary on the fact that Alabama is not as strong as they were earlier in the year. I like the under.

-Sunday 7:10 pm Maryland -7.5 (4) vs Colorado State (12): Maryland is a sneaky great team that was just not quite at the same level as the elites this season. They are capable of making a run to next weekend and I think they handle CSU with relative ease.

Again there are a couple of leans I have but I am not making them official picks because I’m not as confident in them as the three plays up above. I like Michigan State to handle New Mexico and cover. I also really like over 145.5 in Ole Miss vs Iowa State. Additionally, I think Iowa State covers the 5.5. But again, I feel the need to stress, that I am not making these picks officially, I’m just leaning towards these plays. It’s been a decent tournament so far, let’s keep it up and have a day this Sunday!
