The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the most successful teams in the NFL over the last few years, but one thing has remained a constant problem: offensive coordinator turnover. Every season, it feels like Jalen Hurts is forced to learn a brand-new system with a brand-new play-caller, and in 2025, that trend very well may continue.
The meme says it all.

According to Tom Pelissero, it’s all but confirmed that Kellen Moore will be heading to New Orleans as the Saints head coach. Another year, another new Offensive Coordinator for the Eagles.
A History of Constant Offensive Coordinator Change
Jalen Hurts has only had one Offensive Coordinator for consecutive seasons, every other year has been change after change.
- 2020: The Eagles draft Jalen Hurts in the second round, with Doug Pederson and offensive coordinator Press Taylor leading the offense. Hurts replaces Carson Wentz late in the season, but the coaching staff is wiped out after a disastrous 4-11-1 campaign.
- 2021: Nick Sirianni takes over as head coach, with Shane Steichen calling plays. Hurts earns the full-time starting job and leads the Eagles to the playoffs in his first season.
- 2022: Hurts thrives under Steichen, who molds the offense around his strengths. The result? An MVP-caliber season and a trip to Super Bowl LVII. Unfortunately for the Eagles, success comes at a cost—Steichen takes a head coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts.
- 2023: Brian Johnson, formerly the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach, is promoted to OC. Expectations are high, but the offense struggles with consistency, and Johnson is fired after just one season.
- 2024: Enter Kellen Moore, who takes a page out of Steichen’s book and molds the offense around Hurts’ strengths. This results in another trip to the Super Bowl, the first time in Eagles franchise history that a Quarterback has been to multiple Super Bowls. Yet again, it seems like this success comes at a cost: Moore will likely be heading to the New Orleans Saints as their head coach.
With this level of turnover, it’s no wonder the Eagles’ offense has had its ups and downs.
The Impact on Hurts and the Eagles’ Offense
For any quarterback, stability in coaching is crucial. The best signal-callers in the NFL—Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow—have benefited from consistent offensive systems that allow them to refine their craft. Hurts, on the other hand, has had to learn a new playbook nearly every single year.
This instability impacts:
- Offensive rhythm: It’s difficult to establish long-term success when the system is constantly changing.
- Player development: Hurts and his weapons (A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert) have to continually adjust to new schemes.
- Team chemistry: Offensive line protections, route concepts, and play-calling tendencies shift dramatically with each coordinator change.
Despite this, Hurts has led the Eagles to multiple deep playoff runs and continues to be one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league. But how long can he keep adapting?
What’s Next for the Eagles?
The Eagles are heading to Super Bowl LIX in just 7 days. We hope that Kellen Moore is focused on the task at hand and not distracted by his new job. With that being said, assuming Moore does take the Saints head coaching job, the Eagles need to find a long-term solution at OC. They can’t keep forcing their franchise QB to learn a new system every offseason.
Possible solutions include:
- Prioritizing continuity: Promoting from within could help maintain some level of consistency.
- Finding the right scheme fit: Bringing in an OC who builds around Hurts’ strengths rather than overhauling the system.
- Making stability a priority: If the Eagles truly believe in Hurts, they need to commit to an offensive identity that won’t change every year.
Jalen Hurts has already proven he can win under different coordinators, but if the Eagles want to maximize their Super Bowl window, they need to stop hitting the reset button. Otherwise, expect to see this same meme again next offseason.
