Bad news for Cowboys fans: Per Adam Schefter, Dak Prescott is considering season-ending surgery pending a consultation with a specialist next week.
I’ll admit, a younger Kev would have been immature enough to find joy in this news. Yes, that’s not a great look—finding joy in someone else’s injury and misfortune, but the late ‘90s and early ‘00s were not a great time and I was an immature heel. Beyond someone’s well-being, I also like to see the Eagles play teams when they are at their best, especially the Cowboys, as Philadelphia tends to not get the credit they deserve when they are playing well (to be fair, that has changed a bit over the last few years). When it comes down to it, we’re talking about one of the greatest football rivalries of all time—you want both teams to be at their absolute best.
Dak Prescott is Missing Time Regardless
Dak Prescott has a partially torn hamstring that will either require 6-8 weeks to heal on its own or four months of recovery with this surgery. Dallas Cowboys doctors and trainers feel that the latter will prevent any complications in the future; Prescott will find out for sure when he flys to New York next week and sees the specialist.
While the Cowboys were already planning on sitting Dak Prescott and putting Cooper Rush in as they host the Philadelphia Eagles this week, this is a big blow to a Cowboys team already doing poorly this year. At 3-5 going into tomorrow’s game, they are third in the division and could be 4 games behind both division rivals Washington and Philadelphia with a loss this week. While it’s not looking good for the Cowboys this season, they are looking to 2025 and a fully healthy Prescott to lead the team.
The Eagles Need to Still Play Their A Game
Now isn’t the time for The Eagles to think of this as an easy win. Just because Dak Prescott isn’t playing doesn’t mean the Cowboys are out of it. Cooper Rush is 5-1 as a starter for our division rivals. While he is 0-1 against us, it’s these games that feel like an easy win that could be the most dangerous. The Cowboys are at home—we haven’t won’t at AT&T Stadium since we’ve won the Super Bowl— and have something to prove with losing their last 3 games. The Eagles need to play like this is a championship game, not just to beat a division rival, but to help convince the fans they are truly turning things around. I’m not going to lie, the second half of last week’s game wasn’t great and has me a little worried about whether or not this team has what it takes.
